Zora Neale Hurston
Their Eyes Were Watching God, published in the late 1930's, tells the tale of a beautiful African American woman, and the way she must live her life which was forced upon her, and then how she decides to handle it. The story can be seen to portray similarities to growing up in the major cities of the US.
